My husband I decided when I was pregnant with our first that we were going to try not to give our children proceed food and all the bad junk food that is out there. Fast forward three years and my goal to find or make better cereal for my family to eat was started. My boys love cereal, and I would always try to pick the options I thought were the healthiest, our top choices were cheerios and raisin brand. That’s a far cry from the lucky charms my mom used to give me. She would actually pick out all the marshmallows for me because back then there were no Lucky Charm only marshmallow cereals.
My search for something better was started and I found the best recipe, which is listed in the recipes tabs. Now it still has sugar and maple syrup in it but I can control how much is going into it and there isn’t any corn syrup in it. My boys and husband absolutely love it. The flavor options are endless, its easy and fun to make and takes about an hour start to finish and most of that is baking time. Are all time favorite is the chocolate oats which my husband says is more like eating a desert. He likes the apple cinnamon and my favorite is nuts and berries but no matter what one I make it is always a hit.
If you are going to make it here are my suggestions:
-if you put fruit in it use freeze dried fruit
-wait until its done baking to mix the fruit in, otherwise is can brown and burn
-I add flax seed to mine for extra fiber
-if its your first time making, make three different kinds so you can see what you like best
-make more than one batch at a time because a normal size only gets you a couple bowls
It’s always surprising to me how easy to make some stuff is and I think “why didn’t I try this sooner?” but it’s never too late to eat better and healthier.
I hope your family likes the cereal as much as we do!
