We recently went to the U.P to go to a sheep show and it was also our first time camping the five of us. I didn’t know how it was going to go because none of our kids have gone tent camping before and they rarely ever stay somewhere overnight so I didn’t know if they were going to sleep well outside of their own bed. The whole camping trip was so much fun and I look forward to going again in the future. The sheep show on the other hand was not much of a hit.
Packing for a trip is always tough but packing for a camping trip in Michigan fall is really tough. I had to bring clothes for all seasons for all five of us plus our camping gear. And we used all the clothes I packed. I always like packing the clothes for everyone first because I think its pretty easy and it is usually what takes me the longest. While I packed all the clothes Curt was getting our gear around like, cots, sleeping bags, dog kennel and our tent. After we both got our stuff around, we loaded up our van. I packed it how I thought we give us the most room but I did not do it as well as when we packed to go home because I had way more room on the way home and we had more stuff.
The next morning, we were off to Escanaba! The boys did well in the way up and by the time we got to St. Ignace we were ready to stretch our legs and eat some lunch. After we ate, we were back on the rode for the last trek of our ride. We got all set up at the campground and for our tent we used the clam quick set which is so nice because you don’t have to deal with tent poles. What we didn’t realize when we decided to stay at the campground was it was right next to train track. That train ran all night long. The boys slept pretty well one did have to sleep with me for most of the night. Curt and I didn’t sleep well at all. The next morning, we were up early to go to the sheep show. Now I had been looking forward to this event for well over a month and I was pretty disappointed. I thought it was going to be like the sheep event on the movie “babe” with the dogs and it was not. Our boys were board very quickly and it was not very organized. So that was a bummer but we made the most of it. We stayed another night at that campground but decided we were going to leave the next day because it was too noisy and there wasn’t anything to do since we weren’t going back to the sheep show. We moved to another campground by Naubinway so it would be closer to home for when we left. The campground was so much fun. It was right on Lake Michigan and we had a little trail from our site to the beach. The boys loved it we spent three hours after we set up camp playing around on the beach. It was a bit noisy at night being right off of U.S 2 but wasn’t anything we couldn’t sleep through.
Even though the sheep show was a bust we had so much time spending time together camping. It was such a fun experience and just makes me want to go camping again.
